Formulating for fine hair is a paradox: you need to repair damage without crushing volume. Heavy vegetable oils and high-viscosity gums can make fine hair look greasy and flat within hours.
1. The Weight Issue
Traditional conditioning agents deposit thick films. On thick, curly hair, this is desirable. On fine hair (diameter < 60 microns), gravity wins. The hair collapses under the weight of the deposit.
2. The Lightweight Solution: Volatile Blends
To maintain volume, you need a "flash-off" effect. SHINESIL™ C-DM (Cyclopentasiloxane + Dimethiconol) is the engineer's choice.
- Application: The volatile D5 carrier helps spread the gum evenly over the hair shaft during the shower.
- Drying: As the hair dries, the carrier evaporates.
- Result: Only a microscopic layer of repairing gum remains. Zero added weight, maximum shine.
Consumer Perception
In blind salon tests, serums based on volatile silicones were rated 40% higher for "bounciness" compared to Argan oil-based serums.
